A Performance Overview: White Funeral Home
One of the questions we commonly get when speaking with business owners is about how the firm will perform once it is owned a few years by SCI. Will success continue? Will associates be retained? We measure all of our acquisitions’ performance against expectations for the first three years after we partner. The results are very positive and 8 out of 10 firms exceed or meet our expectations. So we thought it would be a good idea to profile a firm 1-2 years after it joined our network to bring this concept to life.
We partnered with Peacock-Newnam-White Funeral Home in early 2015. Peacock-Newnam-White had two locations serving approximately 320 families per year. Greg and Delores White owned this firm and were interested in slowing down but Greg wanted to stay involved with our company. Greg stayed on as the GM of his two locations plus an additional nearby SCI firm which we rebranded as White Funeral Home. Combined, the three locations served 375 families per year. In 2016 the three firms served 401 families and in 2017 they served 478 cases, up 19% year over year.
We spoke with Greg White to get his thoughts on how the firm has managed since they joined the SCI network and what has sparked their success. As Greg highlights, “I have enjoyed working with SCI very much. The transition has given me more freedom to spend time out in the community, time for one-on-one with folks that I have known for many years, and building new relationships. Most of all, I have enjoyed some quality time with my wife, Delores, and my twin granddaughters.”
One of Greg and his teams’ major concerns was around what SCI would do with pricing. Our philosophy is to maintain pricing and NOT to make any increases outside of annual inflationary changes. Greg reflected, “One of the main concerns of the staff was SCI raising our prices and wanting to micro-manage. Of course, none of those things took place. SCI has been very focused on keeping our pricing relevant to our market and also allowing us to continue to operate our businesses as we always have.”
We believe that keeping the team together at firms we partner with is critical. We work hard in the integration to ensure they have a smooth transition. Greg commented, “My team and managers have really enjoyed working for SCI. Truthfully, the first few weeks after the sale required adjustment to the new processes and procedures, paperwork, and HMIS database; however they adapted very quickly and soon it was business as usual. The staff appreciates the thought of the possibilities for advancement with the company, and I have encouraged them to always keep working for greater things within the company.”
Thanks to Greg White and his leadership to the SCI family!
